The Executive Producer Of "Succession" Says The Show Will Be 5 Seasons At The Most, And "Possibly 4"
Collider - All good things must come to an end, and it looks like this will apply to HBO’s hit dramedy Succession. In an interview with British outlet The Times, executive producer Georgia Pritchett revealed an end in sight for the Emmy award-winning show. The question is just when that will be.
“I think the maximum would be five seasons, but possibly more like four,” Pritchett told The Times. The show is currently at the tail-end of filming the show’s third season, which is expected to premiere sometime before the end of the year.
“We’re at the end of filming season three, so at this point [Armstrong] is saying only one more,” she explained. However, she’s not sure if he’ll bite the bullet following the fourth season, saying that a creator walking back on doing one more season “happens every time.” Don’t expect the series to have an aimless finale, either. Pritchett teased that the team has “a good end in sight.”

People might hate this take, but I love when shows end in their prime. I hate when great shows go on and on and on simply because they are popular and there is a ton of more money to make. What usually ends up happening is main characters leave, the story weakens, you stop caring, and a once great show becomes a shadow of what it used to be. Instead, do what Succession is going to do- tell the story, and go out on top. No games, no terrible plot twists to try and keep it interesting, no main characters going to film movies leaving big holes in the plot. In and out, wham bam thank you mam is the way to do it. Look at Breaking Bad- 5 perfect seasons. Nobody complains it was too short because it was a perfect show. On the other hand, LOST. They had no plan, they kept trying to re-invent the show, and what could have been an all-time great show is now a "what could have been".
With a strong 3rd season, people might start putting Succession in that top-tier of television shows, up there with Sopranos, The Wire, and GoT (pre-final season). It's definitely already in my top 10, and I have no reason to think it'll fall off. Then again, "Dave" season 1 was my favorite show of last year and season 2 has been a huge disappointment so far, so who knows. Seriously though, what is up with Dave? Episodes 1 and 2 were just...bad. Episode 3 was the best so far, and it would have easily been the worst episode of season 1. That whole "Chuck" bit? Yuck. I think the show somewhat got back on track in episode 3 so I'm optimistic moving forward, but man, what a let-down this season has been so far.
