Quentin Tarantino Financially Iced Out His Mom For Not Believing In His Screenwriting Career
During an appearance on "The Moment" podcast, which is hosted by "Billions" co-creator Brian Koppelman, the famed writer and director said his mother Connie Zastoupil gave him a hard time about his aspiring career before he became famous.
He said she even told him his "little writing career" (don't forget to insert the quote fingers) was over.
"I go, 'OK lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success. There will be no house for you. There's no vacation for you, no Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing. Because you said that,'" he recalled.
Tarantino says he had stuck to that, other than kicking in some dough after she got into "a jam with the IRS."
"There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children," the "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood" creator said. "Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what's meaningful to them."

We've all been where young Quentin once was. You go up to your mom with wide eyes because you have what you think is the best idea in the world. You pitch it to your mom, expecting the beautiful sound of a yes, only to be destroyed with a disappointing no. For me, it was when I pitched my mom to buy me GTA Vice City. "I went to Matt's house and his mom lets him play it!", as if the transitive property means shit to a mom. She shut that shit down FAST and hit me with the 2004 version of "You got GTA at home", which, in this case, was Crash Bandicoot somehow.
For Tarantino, his version of Vice City was his dream of being a screenwriter. Very similar situations! His mom shut him down in a similar fashion, but it obviously didn't slow down young 20's Tarantino at ALL. In fact, I'd say it supercharged his drive to become what he is today: One of the best screenwriters of all time.
By the way, is it weird that I picture young Tarantino(like, child Tarantino, not 20's) to have the exact same face and head, but on a smaller body? Almost like when they would do flashbacks in the George Lopez show?
Anyway, financially icing out his mom seems harsh. She may have lacked faith in him, but it was probably from a place of realism and love! She just didn't want to see her beautiful, big headed baby boy waiting tables in LA for the rest of his life. Plus, thats your mom, man! You only get one of them for life and you should treat them right!
However….I am actually on Tarantino's side here.
His mom hitting him with that BRUTAL line "Your little writing career is over". OUCH! You gotta at least soften the blow with something like "Why don't you have a backup school!" or something like that. So you know what, Mrs. Tarantino, let this be a lifelong lesson for you to DUTCH VOICE have a little faith in the future.
