Georgia Southern Coach Chad Lunsford's Perspective on a 1-2 Start Will Be the Best Thing You Watch Today

Georgia Southern is off to a 1-2 start to the 2021 football season. It still has games remaining against Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, BYU and Appalachian State. There's a chance things go pretty sideways for the Eagles the rest of the way and they miss a bowl game for the first time since 2017, when previous head coach Tyson Summers was fired.

But you wouldn't know too much was wrong by asking Chad Lunsford. Man, I love this answer.

"I'm not defined by football," Lunsford said. "I love football. I love to win. I love to compete. I don't want to lose. I probably hate losing more than I love winning. But it's not gonna define my life. And if people don't like that, it is what it is, man. I got one person to please and that's God."

Anybody that can maintain that level of perspective in a situation where you're under as much professional pressure as you could possibly imagine is more well-adjusted than I am, that's for sure. And Georgia Southern is a place where fans expect to win. It went from winning FCS national titles under Paul Johnson and competing for more under Jeff Monken to having 9- and 10-win seasons in the FBS. It's a great program with fans who expect excellence.

But I don't see how you could listen to Lunsford talk and not want him leading your football program. I'd strap it up for that guy right now.

I'm rooting for GSU (#SouthernNotState) hard the rest of this season. Hopefully Lunsford can beat a couple of those teams I mentioned and get the Eagles to a good bowl game.
