Texas-Oklahoma Today Was Everything That's Awesome About College Football
That was the best college football game of 2021 and the best game I remember watching in some time. I audibly screamed, "I love college football," at least three times in the second half.
Texas raced out to a 28-7 lead in the first quarter and looked like it was going to run Oklahoma out of the building. But then the Sooners benched Spencer Rattler for true freshman Caleb Williams, who decided that he wasn't going down without a fight.
Williams came in and brought the Sooners all the way back to within one score and then he and Marvin Mims connected for one of the best plays you're going to see this season. The throw was a 9.2/10 and the catch was somehow better.
The Sooners tied the game and subsequently took a seven-point lead, but Casey Thompson and the Longhorns weren't done yet. Texas stormed back down the field and tied the game once again with an awesome play from Thompson and Xavier Worthy.
They left too much time for the Sooners, though. OU went down and Kennedy Brooks capped the game with a 33-yard touchdown for the 55-48 win in the Red River Shootout.
Everything about this game was simply delightful. Two fanbases going absolutely nuts. Two great offenses trading scores in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma coming back from a 3 percent win probability in the second half to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive.
Even if Texas didn't get the chance to exclaim that it's back today, it seems like the Longhorns might be well on their way under Steve Sarkisian. That was an awesome football game.
