Klay Thompson Is Still Mad Online About Getting Snubbed From The NBA's Top 75 List
I'll be honest, I didn't know Klay Thompson got mad about anything. He just seems like such a chill guy that something like this Top 75 list wouldn't bother him. In reality, it appears the exact opposite is true and he's pretty mad online about it. He's not the only guy who I imagine might feel this way. I already talked about Dwight (a legit snub), but there are other guys like Alex English, Kyrie, Penny, Grant Hill, Vince Carter, TMac etc that also found themselves on the outside looking in.
So does Klay have a point? Let's look to the resume:
5x All Star
2x All NBA 3rd team
1x All NBA 2nd team
74th all time in points per game
14th all time in 3P%
20th all time in 3PM
3x Champion
Here's how I think those who believe Klay should have made it will frame it. He's already one of the greatest shooters in NBA history. You could make the case that if we're talking about the Top 75 players of all time, a guy who is one of the best shooters ever should be included. You combine that with his postseason accomplishments and I get it.
I just don't agree.
If you look at the other current players that made this list who are also high up on the career 3PM list, you see names like Curry, Harden, Dame, and LeBron. Obviously their resume's look a little different than Klay's. Someone who is a current player with more 3PM but also didn't make it is Kyle Lowry, who is a 6x All Star but only 1x All NBA so obviously he's not making it. When it comes to Klay, if this was a list of greatest shooters ever, he obviously would make it. But I don't think it's this huge slight that he didn't make the cut when you also look at other guys who got snubbed. If you were to put Klay in, who are you removing? That's where it gets tricky. Personally I'm putting Dwight over one of AD/Dame, but I'm not so sure Klay is more deserving than too many of the other snubs.
Here's what I do know. I know I miss watching Klay play basketball because when he's on, it's awesome. How could we forget this moment
Or how about this ridiculous performance a few years ago when he went for 52 and 14 3PM against the Bulls and basically didn't dribble
If you go by Basketball Reference's HOF odds, Klay sits at just 51.3% as of now. I'm not sure that translates into being a lock for the Top 75 of all time. But if this is something that's going to give us a motivated Klay once he comes back around Christmas, I'm all for it. The guy has had some of the worst injury luck I can remember these last few years. Him coming back in to take those FTs on a torn ACL was a pretty insane moment. I hope when he comes back he looks better than ever because when the Splash Brothers have it going it's incredible to watch.
But I can't in good faith say he's a Top 75 player all time. I love his mentality and obviously NBA players get to where they are for thinking this way, but this wasn't that egregious of a snub in my opinion. Absolutely one of the greatest shooters to ever play in the league. No doubt about that. Sadly, that's not enough.
