Watch Out JR Smith: An NAIA School Has A 63-Year Old Sophomore Who Went From A Walk-On To The No. 1 Golfer On Her Team
[Golf Channel] - In her first tournament this season, the Well at Point Invitational, Blount placed 34th, citing trouble with her putting. But her next start at the TWU Fall Invitational brought better results. The Eagles, as a team, placed second and three players made all-tournament, including Blount, who finished sixth at 18 over after shooting 78-85, notching her first college golf trophy, for which she found a spot on the shelf, and eventually worked her way to playing the Eagles' No. 1 position at the fall conference championship.
Hell yeah Debbie. JR Smith going back to college and playing college golf is awesome. But he's a former athlete. Not exactly shocking he can be decent at golf. Here we have a 63-year old woman going back to college and grinding away on the course. Love it.
Even better is she went from a 62-year old walk-on to a 63-year old partial scholarship player and the No. 1 golfer on her team. You can't teach that. That's dedication. That's fine tuning your game and figuring out how to get some trophies on your shelf. Even better? She'll stripe one right in front of your fucking face if you think she's not there to compete.
“She has said the one time she was playing with a girl and she showed up at the tee box and the girl gave her coach a look like, I’m playing with this, like you got to be kidding me,” Lauren said. “But Debbie went up and piped one right down the middle and the girl looked at her coach, like, guess I’m stuck doing this.
“She fits in and she shows them if they give her dirty looks, she shows ’em I’m here to play. Like I don’t care what you have to say to me, I’m here to beat your butt and she does her best she can to do it.”
Debbie will talk that shit and then back it up. I love the killer intensity here. Oh you give me a dirty look? Catch this drive going past yours and in play. Oh I'll also get up and down and then beat your ass. Debbie is fully with the shits and honestly that might be my favorite thing about her.
I give credit to Debbie. It can't be easy going to college as a 63-year old. Then you gotta blend in with teammates and be a normal person on the team. You're talking about people that are nearly 40 years younger. But this is Debbie. She decides to compete. She decides to fit in and then kick ass on the course.
Go get that conference title Debbie.
