I Hate Double Overtimes With A Passion Of A Thousand Suns
I swear to god this team is going to kill us all before we even get to Christmas. We're now up to three OT and two 2OT games to start the season. Half of their games. We're in a spot where the Celts are a possession here or there from being 4-2 or 1-5. Instead, they are 2-4 and once again dropped another extremely frustrating double overtime game. Completely choking down the stretch, some questionable calls, and a general shitting of their pants in the biggest moments ultimately was too much to overcome. At some point you would hope that water would find its level with this shit but that would also require them to actually play well in these moments. After getting called out by their coach, I wouldn't say effort was an issue tonight. It wasn't a case of the Celts not playing hard. They just didn't execute in the big moments. They shot 2-26 from three. Tatum went 10-33. The fact that it was even a 2OT game was a bit of a prayer, and one that you definitely wish they were able to steal. Especially being up 6 early in the first OT, going scoreless over the last 3 minutes proved to actually not be the best strategy.
Naturally, there will be panic. I get why, I mean the Celts are 2-4. People won't care about context. They've generally played like shit to start the season and their record currently reflects it. Their end of game execution is some of the worst I've ever seen. Hopefully that's just early season shit because it's clear that the Celts will only be playing close games this season. If you're going to do that, you have to have better late game execution. I'm not even talking about last possession, I'm more talking about the final few minutes. It wasn't just trash at the very end, it was mostly trash as things got tight in both OTs.
To cap it off, the fact that they don't even get a shot off at the end of 2OT was very pathetic. Say what you want about Smart, but at least he shoots it. I'm not sure what Schroder was thinking dribbling out the clock there. Not the best awareness if we're being honest.
Remember, it's early. Half of their losses have come in coin toss 2OTs. At the same time sooner or later they have to close these opportunities out. Their best players need to show up in the biggest moments. Their coach needs to be better at the end of games. Overall they just need to stop putting us through emotional hell on a nightly basis. That would be nice.
We'll talk more specifics in the morning. Lord knows I'm going to be up all night thinking about it.
