100% Real And No Sarcasm: Duke Was Pissed UNC Coaches Didn't Shake Hands Before The Game And Didn't 'Honor' K In Chapel Hill
[Source] - Carrawell told the (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer in a postgame text that Davis "did not shake our hands before the game." That fact, plus the loss, might explain why Duke coaches responded the way they did.
Moreover, an ESPN story Wednesday suggested that people within the Blue Devils' basketball program "bristled" at the fact North Carolina did not honor Coach K during his farewell tour while other ACC schools did. Krzyzewski's final trip to the Dean Smith Center — an 87-67 Blue Devils victory on Feb. 5 — did not feature any notable acknowledgement by UNC, other than a brief mention of Krzyzewski at the beginning of the game.
Davis said he didn't understand why Carrawell brushed him off.
“I don’t know what that’s about,” Davis said. “I didn’t play against him, I don’t know him personally.”
I honestly didn't want to have to blog about Duke today. I swear I didn't. I have a blog I'm already riled up about, but we'll get to Bellarmine and the NCAA here in a few. Then I saw this and was forced to blog about Duke. Blame them, not me. In case you missed it, we had a classic Duke moment in the handshake line:
Granted Chris Carrawell learned this move from the best. We know how K handles losses, but this is just so stupid. Don't want to shake hands? Fine. Don't do a handshake line. But this little snub? It's just soft. It's even softer when you find out he's all pissy that Hubert Davis didn't shake his hand before the game. Or that Duke 'bristled' at the fact UNC didn't give K any gifts.
I'm sorry, what? This is a rivalry. It's one of the best rivalries in all of sports. You want UNC to give their most hated guy gifts? Did you see what his own school gave him? A bench, some shitty combo of a Duke and Army jersey and then the scholarship thing. That's like a 3.4 out of 10. I saw a 2-year old get better gifts at a birthday party yesterday afternoon if we're being honest.
Every day I wonder how Duke can somehow be worse. This is today's example.
