The Mets Offseason Is Officially BACK ON As They Trade For Chris Bassitt

Hey Oakland, nice doing business with you!

I'll admit, I was starting to get a little impatient after the Mets made us wait a whole 48 hours before adding another big piece to their roster. But our GM was going Eppler Mode and working those phones overtime to land a guy with these numbers.

My advanced scouting report on Bassitt is that he was really good for me in fantasy a few years ago, is 6'5" which is good because I love tall pitchers like John Elway loves tall quarterbacks, saw his K/9 rise every year from 6.37 as a rookie in 2014 to 9.10 last year, and is clearly hockey tough after bouncing back from this super scary moment to start his next game only a month later.

White Sox Dave also blogged once up a time that Bassitt is a Stoolie which you love to hear and his nickname is C-Bass, so we'll probably have some fun with that during the season.

So for those keeping track at home, the Mets rotation is currently Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Chris Bassit, Taijuan Walker, and Carlos Carrasco. Not too goddamn shabby if you ask me, especially if we get 1st Half Taijuan Walker (who was an All-Star) and/or 2nd-6th Inning Carlos Carrasco (who was actually good enough to be nicknamed Cookie instead of the worst pitcher in the universe) next season. Even if we don't, we have David Peterson, Tylor Megill, and whoever Uncle Stevie allows the Eppdogg to pick up with a blank check if necessary.

Speaking of Uncle Stevie, our baseball lord and savior is already back to stirring things up on the bird as he continues to chug towards the big bad Cohen Tax the broke boi owners put in place to stop him.

As for what the Mets game up, I know J.T. Ginn was an electric arm that the Mets drafted after he underwent Tommy John surgery before the draft while Adam Oller seemed to improve last season but isn't held in as high regard. But neither seem to be absolute stud prospects, even though any trade with the A's has me fully expecting the prospects to be in the All-Star Game in 3 years or so.

None of that matters though since the Mets had to solidify the rotation because injuries to pitchers are as much a part of baseball as labor strife and worrying about what the future holds for a couple of minor leaguers years away from the Bigs is no way to live now that the Mets are operating like an actual big market team.

Now let's go get a couple of bullpen arms and maybe a big bopper bat if Stevie's feeling feisty since we have money to burn as well as tradable pieces on a still odd fitting roster. I cannot fucking WAIT for Opening Day to get here. We recorded a new We Gotta Believe yesterday that you can watch below or listen in podcast form. But the way this front office moves, we may have to record another episode by Monday morning.
