Freddie Freeman Officially Pens His Goodbye to the Braves

Freddie Freeman has posted his farewell to the only franchise he's played with as a professional baseball player.

As excited as I am to have Matt Olson as an Atlanta Brave for the better part of the next decade, this still made me sad. Even if you think the Braves are better on the field with Olson and the other players they were able to sign with the money they saved by not signing Freeman — I personally do — there's still that feeling that Freddie should have been a Brave for life. He was seemingly set up to be this generation's Chipper Jones.

But now he's going elsewhere.

I think the biggest compliment you can give Freddie is he never took a single season, month, game or play off, even while playing every single day on some very bad baseball teams. I'm so happy he finally helped win the ring he deserved in Atlanta and seeing as that's how it ended with the Braves, there are a lot worse send-offs.

His last at-bat was pretty great, too.

Freddie will always be one of my favorite Braves. I plan on being at Truist Park when No. 5 is hopefully retired as soon as his career is over. Things just don't always work out the way they're supposed to.

Thanks for everything, 5.
