The Buccaneers Continue To Dominate Free Agency, Re-signing WR Chris Godwin
This was expected as the Buccaneers wisely used the Franchise tag on Godwin to keep his deal more reasonable and needed to manipulate his cap number to get under the salary cap for this season. At the end of the day, he's got the same deal that Chargers WR Mike Williams got, which is a steal. So what type of player is Godwin? He plays the 'big slot' role in Bruce Arians vertical passing game. A spot occupied by the likes of Hines Ward and Larry Fitzgerald in the past. Godwin is:
A very good route runner
Has terrific hands
And while he's not a towering guy at 6'1" 208 lbs., but he does a nice job on contested catches
He's also ferocious in the open field
And an outstanding blocker for the position:
On top of all that incredible stuff on the field, it's also a team friendly deal as he's taking up only $5M against the salary cap this year:
Jason Licht and the Buccaneers are winning free agency.
