Jose Ramirez Signed Under Market Value To Stay In Cleveland Because "$100 Million Is The Same As $200 Million" To Him
Well if that isn't just the most refreshing statement I've ever heard come out of a professional athlete's mouth. The rest of us common folk are all sitting here trying to pick up a couple extra shifts to afford the "luxurious" things in like like a family vacation, a downpayment on a house, or even gasoline, and we've got these multi-millionaires sitting out of training camp over dollars and cents. But Jose Ramirez finally made the same dumbass argument we all have at the bars each Friday night. "$100 million is the same as $200 million to me". Or "at what point do you have enough that does money not matter anymore?" This quote alone is worth a Jose statue when his playing days are over, perhaps sooner. One of the best players in the game chose to stay in Cleveland for what literally could have been a hundred million dollars more. What an insane move. What a great guy.
But also, what an idiot.
Listen I've been in Ohio for all 29 years of my life. Been a Browns, Cavs, and Indians season ticket holder. Went off for 4 years of college all the way to Ohio State. I absolutely love everything about this state, and I don't think I'll ever leave. But if you told me I could do the same job for $100 million more, I wouldn't even need to pack my bags. I'd just buy everything new wherever you were sending me. And in Jose's case, you're telling me it could be somewhere more fun with better weather? For $100 million more? To play baseball? My goodness, are we sure his brain works okay? I know the guy wears a helmet to play but he might need to start wearing a helmet to bed. Something is not right here. He took a outrageous discount to stay in CLEVELAND? How many people in the history of the world have ever done that to stay in Cleveland? Over/Under .5 would be the Vegas line.
And you can all say what you want, no one, and I mean no one, is signing this much under market value, not matter how much you love your job or your location. You always gotta get the bag when you can. But my oh my am I glad Jose Ramirez didn't care about that. This guy truly is one of a kind.
This dude GETS IT. How did Cleveland get so lucky.....? We honestly don't deserve him. Well, maybe the fans do -- we show love to him and he shows love to us. But I can tell you who absolutely does not: the Dolans. Let's not forget how sad it is that the Guardians couldn't even offer market value to someone this talented and this down to Earth.
