NFL Teams Are Officially Addicted To Signing College Basketball Players As Tight Ends And Frankly It's Impossible To Blame Them
Here we go, the annual tradition now of college basketball players making the jump to the NFL. This year it's Marcus Santos-Silva and Trey Wade, both I've blogged about before. But it's also now official. Santos-Silva has a little bit of history since he played at VCU and that's where Mo Allie-Cox played ball at. He's a decent tight end in the NFL - also the epitome of the waiver wire pick up when you need a tight end for a week in fantasy.
This just keeps showing that basketball players are the best athletes in the world. You ever see a true football guy try to shoot a basketball? It looks made up it's that bad. Still not as bad as wrestlers attempting to shoot a basketball, but that's the dead giveaway. Hockey is different because skating is brutal. I just want to learn how the hell to stop when skating.
Now back to this, everyone is trying to find the next Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Jimmy Graham, etc. Hard to blame them. Santos-Silva is 6'7", 250 pounds and a damn good athlete. You're telling me you can't get him in the red zone here? Just throw it up to him. What safety is sticking that? Trey Wade is 6'6", 220. Football players aren't that tall, just like Wade's new quarterback. But surely Kyler can throw it high, shit he needs someone after no Hopkins for 6 games. Hollywood Brown isn't a red zone target.
This is for sure the new trend though. Mark Vital spent time with a couple teams last year after helping Baylor win a title. Rico Gathers tried doing the same a few years ago. Long story short, they are all better than Evan Engram.
