Philadelphia Flyers Go Out And Land The Sweetest Name In The Draft With The 5th Pick, Cutter Gauthier
CUTTER.
Listen here. All you analytics nerds and scouts can go suck a butt. You don't need to know anything about this kid's game aside from the fact that his name is Cutter. You get a prospect named "Cutter" still available on the draft board when your pick is up and you take him 11 times out of 10. That kid was born to be great. He was born to dominate. And it also doesn't hurt that he's 6'3", 200lbs, and can shoot the shit out of the puck.
Kid is a physical specimen. Can absolutely pound the rock off the tee, too.
Being able to rip the ball 280 down the middle of the fairway with both hands is worth being a top overall pick alone. But then combine the fact that he scored 34 goals and 31 assists in 54 games with the USNTDP U18 team this season, and 9 points in 6 games at the U18 Worlds? Stud. An absolute stud who will go on to Boston College next season to wreak havoc on the college hockey scene before he gets called up to wear the Orange and Black in a couple years. The BC to Philly pipeline continues to grow with Kevin Hayes, Cam Atkinson, soon-to-be Johnny Gaudreau, and now Cutter Gauthier. The Philadelphia Golden Eagles, if you will.
Anyway, I honestly don't know much about this kid other than the fact that he was flying up the draft boards over the last couple of weeks. Kid was trending and he was trending hot. Here's to hoping it was for all the right reasons and not just getting hot at the right time. It was a pretty wild draft at the start with all the top 6 guys going in the top 6, but at different spots than most would think. Personally I was high on the defensemen Simon Nemec and David Jiricek. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of both of those guys ending up in the Metro Division with New Jersey and Columbus respectively. But if Cutter Gauthier can develop himself into a regular 30-goal scorer in the NHL? Well you can't complain with that one bit.
