There Is A Chance That #2 Overall Pick Druw Jones Is Already Out For Year After Injuring His Shoulder While Taking Batting Practice
Awful break here for Druw Jones and the Diamondbacks. Jones was picked #2 overall last week and now may be out for the season after injuring his shoulder while taking batting practice with the organization. Tough break for the last few Diamondbacks first round picks too, Corbin Carroll in 2019 and Jordan Lawlar in 2021, now Jones in 2022. Carroll and Lawler had season-ending shoulder surgery last year, now Jones may have to as well. Obviously he wasn't going to get game action this year in anything above Rookie Ball, but it sucks for his development. They have him meeting with a doctor tomorrow to determine the severity and what needs to happen next. Rehab? Surgery? Who knows.
Lucky for him, he did sign his $8.19 million contract last week and was introduced to the home fans over the weekend, but that may be the only time they get a chance to see him this year. Have to wonder if this was just a freak accident or if there was something in his medical records that could have predicted this. Could he have had a torn labrum or something like that? Is that what scared away Mike Elias and the Orioles from making him the #1 pick? Who knows, but it is an awful break for the kid. Never want to see anyone injured, let alone in a BP session. Plenty of time to heal up and get that wing right before we see him put on a show in the minors next year.
