FACTS: Phillies "Interim" Manager Rob Thompson Has The Highest Winning Percentage In MLB History
Connie Mack. Tommy Lasorda. Joe Torre. Bruce Boche. Lou Brown.
None of those legendary managers, or anyone else for that matter, have a higher career winning percentage as a skipper than Philly Rob Thomson. The Phillies were 22-29 when Girardi got axed and were basically written off as underachievers. Again. Now they're 62-48 with their cockles firmly entrenched in a playoff spot. It's actually incredible. If we were to do a vibe check on this squad right now I would compare their playing, confidence, and overall feel to the likes of the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles. And you can't really explain why, either. There's just something special going on right now in South Philly.
After coming back down two runs late last night vs. the best pitcher in baseball, the Phillies are 41-19 in their last 60 games (s/o to Joe Girardi for actually winning one before being shown the door). That is tied for the best 60 game stretch in Phillies history (2011 was a great damn year...until it wasn't). Oh, and they're 25-13 - WITHOUT BRYCE HARPER. And don't give me this "oH rEmEmBEr wHeN bRYcE LeFT dC aNd tHe nAtS wOn tHe wOrLD sEriEs?!?!?" and try to say teams are better without him. Bulldick. Anybody who actually watches Harper play knows his presence makes a team better...which makes this lineup outright SCARY when he comes back swinging his stick off. Not to mention Castellanos is finally back to hitting baseballs, JT has returned to being the best catcher in the game, bottom feeders Odubel/Familia get cut loose, and Aaron Nola has regained his King Shit status. Not to mention the bullpen has transformed itself from being historically dogdick the past two seasons to simply dogdick earlier this year...and then Philly Rob took over and now they're one of the best Armbarns in the NL. It's incredible what he's been able to get out of this squad from top to bottom.
All Hail Philly Rob. Day game today to finish off the Marlins. And then get ready to unleash hell. May God have mercy on Frank The Tank's heart.
