Rory McIlroy Just Turned In One Of The Most Bizarre Scorecards You’ll Ever See On Tour
Man, what a wild ride for Rory out there. A torrential downpour popped up literally and figuratively from the clouds at East Lake just as he was starting his round, and he pull hooked his first tee shot OB off the property. Pull hooked the next one into a bunker and made a triple 7 to get things started. He followed that up with a poor tee shot that left him an OBSCENE lie next to the greenside bunker on 2. Bogey there sent him from his -4 starting position all the way back to even par for the Tour Championship. 8 months of hard work to get himself a decent starting position at the grand finale vanished in less than a half hour.
From there he balled out. -7 in the next 16 holes is the kind of stuff we all know Rory is capable of. Crazier though is that he mixed in 3 bogeys and an eagle to get there. Roller coaster ride, through and through. Never a dull moment with Rors.
The stats there tell the story. Absolute spray show off the tee, complete baller on the dancefloor. What’s even more bizarre is that that’s the opposite of his reputation. Usually the guy smashes the ball off the tee and can’t seem to cash in on the greens. We saw that in a big way at St. Andrews last month.
Not sure you’re gonna find a more fascinating 67 this year. Still lost ground to Scottie, who went dummy with a 65, but he’s still not out of it. Should be a fun few days.
PS: did a lil hot dog review out there today. Very solid meat rocket East Lake has out there. Apologies for my poor camera work showing the dog but I’m a one man show out here. Whaddya want me to do.
