John Harbaugh Announces Poe Will Be Placed On IR As The Search For A Mascot For The 2022 Season Begins
Tragic. You always assume the worst and hope for the best. Looks like our assumptions on Saturday night were true....
But here presents a new opportunity. This is a next man up kind of league and things are no different in the mascot ranks.
My take? It's time to get the band back together.
For those who don't know, the Ravens used to rock with 3 mascots. Look at these jolly fellas.
They used to have their own distinct personalities too. According to the most ironclad source on the internet (wikipedia):
When originally unveiled, Poe was one of three costumed mascots, all raven brothers named "Edgar", "Allan", and "Poe". Because the Baltimore Ravens were named after the poem "The Raven" by Baltimore resident Edgar Allan Poe, it was natural to name their mascots after Poe.[2] The three not only commemorated the famous Baltimore poet, but also represented three completely different personalities and their stereotypical relation to certain types of NFL players.
According to the back story, Edgar was the first to hatch. Edgar was tall and broad shouldered, representing the "backfield" or the players of the game routinely not staged on the line of scrimmage. This represented the linebacker, defensive back, fullback, quarterback, etc. Edgar was decidedly proud, if not arrogant, and was the leader of the trio.
Allan was particularly shorter and thinner than Edgar and especially Poe, yet much quicker. He represented the receivers and running backs. Allan was a very excitable bird who always had energy to spare.
Poe was the last to hatch. Poe is short and stout representing the linemen of the game. He is a slow, lazy, yet lovable mascot. Poe routinely joins tailgate parties in his never-ending search for the perfect cheeseburger.
Then Edgar and Allan mysteriously disappeared into the night after the 2008 season.
It's time.
It's time for Edgar and Allan to come home. Get the gang back together for the Super Bowl push this season. It's a gigantic season in Baltimore. Lamar 5th year. Tons of guys returning from injury. We're out for revenge on all the teams that ran up the score on us last year when guys were down. It's an all hands on deck situation here in Baltimore. Let's Edgar and Allan back in the mix and do the job that Poe can't.

Do it, Ravens. Bring them home. Do it.
