Can You Feel The Tension? Billy Horschel And Ian Poulter Spotted Having A Passionate Discussion At The BMW PGA Championship As LIV Golfers Invade The European Tour
Friendly banter amongst long-time colleagues? Or heated golf tour beefin?
I don't care which, I'm here for all of it. Just the notion that these two might be having it out on the putting green of a big-time golf tournament is enough for me. My imagination can run wild with this one and so can the pageviews. Anything like this is liable to catch eyeballs and I appreciate you coming along for the ride.
With that said, Horschel has been pretttttyy outspoken against LIV guys throughout this saga, and has only turned the heat up this week as tons of LIV guys invade the DP World Tour for their flagship event. Guy laid into the LIV crew and had no problem naming names. Quotes via Golf Digest:
“Even though Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter have been stalwarts for the European Tour, I don't think those guys really should be here,” Horschel said. “I honestly don't think that the American guys who haven't supported the PGA Tour should be here. Abraham Ancer, Talor Gooch, Jason Kokrak [who withdrew from the event], you've never played this tournament, you've never supported the DP World Tour. Why are you here? You are here for one reason only and that's to try to get World Ranking points because you don't have them [on the LIV Tour].
“That’s hypocritical because of what some of these guys have said this week,” Horschel continued. “When they said they wanted to play less golf. It's pretty hypocritical to come over here and play outside LIV when your big thing was to spend more time with family and want to play less golf. So that's my stance on it. I can see where other guys may differ and have a different opinion. But, like I said, it's tough. If we were on the PGA Tour, I would be hard-lined as I've always been.”
Pretty spicy stuff. Horschel's a guy who's never been afraid to speak his mind, but he also has a great rapport with a ton of international guys. He said as much on Fore Play a couple months back. He gets along great with the Euros and Aussies of the golf world, most of which have jumped ship. So there's a chance this is just a spirited conversation between two friends… but I'm choosing to believe the opposite. It's just more fun that way.
