Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam Went Bananas On The Sidelines After Cleveland Beat Baker Mayfield
You think he wanted to win this one?? Jimmy may have been the notable one caught on camera, but his emotions are exactly what the entire city of Cleveland felt when Cade York put that ball through the uprights from 100 yards out to send Baker home a loser.
Listen, I'm on record as being a Baker fan. I like the guy and thought the Browns did him dirty, but if you could stomach what was going to happen if the Browns lost that game to him, then you are not from Cleveland. I shudder to think about what that postgame press conference would've sounded like. Calling out anyone and everyone, including most notably the front office that decided to bring in someone with 20+ sexual assault allegations instead of sticking with their franchise QB that led them to the playoffs for the first time in a million years. That would've been the worst loss in my Browns lifetime, and folks, there have been plenty of them.
But the point of this blog is not to beat a dead horse. The Browns won, and I win with class. I'm now cheering for Baker the rest of the year, especially as I hope he helps us out by beating the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals. However the point of this blog is how thankful I am to have an owner that actually cares about winning in Cleveland. Find me another person on the planet worth $5 BILLION that celebrates a field goal like that. And before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, Mark Cuban's net worth was just estimated at a mere $4.8 billion earlier this year. What a peasant! Besides, if you're saying the Browns have the Mark Cuban of the NFL in their owner's box, I'll take it.
The fact of that matter is that you can say whatever you want about Jimmy Haslam, and I'm sure you commenters will have a field day below about his Pilot Flying J fraud scandal, but you CANNOT say that he doesn't want to win. Meanwhile, right down the road we've got the 27th highest payroll in Major League Baseball in the midst of a pennant race with teams with 3-5x more money spent than them. Can Jimmy Haslam please buy the Guardians, too?
