BREAKING: Francis Ellis Has Joined The Dozen & The Big Screamin Honkers
What’s going to happen to the Big Screamin’ Honkers has been the question on every Dozen’s fan mind following Coley Mick’s departure from Barstool this Summer. Coley was the team captain of the Season 1 Champions, the Season 1 Dozen Tournament MVP, and a legitimate top 5 player in the league. There weren’t many players more crucial to their team’s identity than Coley, so following his exit with expansion/roster reshuffling going on, it looked like Robbie Fox & Ben Mintz might split to join new teams. They didn’t want to do that; they wanted to continue the Honkers’ names and run things back. Jeff D. Lowe okayed their decision to run it back with one caveat: they needed to bring in someone with a level of weight to them; it couldn’t be any regular role player.
For those unaware of Francis’s credentials, he is a man of Harvard, a former collegiate lacrosse player, and at 6’3, fills the height void left in Coley’s absence. Francis is well-read, and well-versed in music & pop culture, and while he may not be as strong in sports categories as Coley, nothing will stop Francis from flexing about “basketball only being his 8th best sport.” Regardless of whether Francis scores the most points or any points, he will carry himself like the league MVP.
The addition of Francis ensures that the Honkers will remain a playoff team, and he gives them a different dimension in terms of potential niche categories. How Francis will mesh with Mintzy will be interesting to watch, as I am not sure the two have ever met. Watching Francis and Robbie reunite as teammates is a fun twist, given their days arguing over whether they had the same job.
Can Francis fill those big shoes left by Coley?
We shall see! The Dozen returns on October 4th in Philadelphia.
