Yesterday's Commanders Game Was So Embarrassing For So Many Reasons
See those pictures? Those are official Getty pictures from the Commanders vs Eagles game that took place yesterday. The issue? The game wasn't in Philly. That was a home game for the Commanders, completely taken over - once again - by Eagles fans. They showed up in droves, booed the hell out of Carson Wentz, and watched Jalen Hurts ball out in the dump we call Fed Ex Field. On the other side of the field, Wentz was sacked 9 times by his old team, and looked exactly how people told me he would look. And quite frankly, it was frustrating to watch, exhausting, and downright embarrassing.
To put it mildly, I feel like a stupid piece of shit for even entertaining the fact that things in Washington have changed. Look- I've been saying since June that this defense needed help. I have wanted Jack Del Rio fired since week 1 of last season. And in the offseason, Ron Rivera did nothing at all to improve the defense. Nothing. So that allowed Hurts to pop off for 340 and 3 TDs yesterday, and I'm sitting there on my couch like a fucking asshole watching it happen.
Then there's the offense. The offense has not been the issue this season. Until yesterday Wentz had played pretty well and the playcalling had been creative and inspiring. So of course Wentz took a big old shit all over himself. Dude would not get rid of the ball. Just wouldn't do it. It was like the ball was superglued to his hand. Never seen anything like it. HE WAS SACKED 9 TIMES! NINE!!! Completely inexcusable.
What really sucks is looking at the Eagles, who rebuilt in 2 years, full knowing a Dan Snyder owned team could never do that. They got their QB and then surrounded him with weapons. DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown could be the best 1/2 WR punch in the league. Dallas Goedert is a pretty good TE. Their OLine is tough, and the defense is stacked. Meanwhile we gave up a shit ton for Wentz and are still letting Jack Del Rio try and coach his way out of a paper bag, it makes no sense.
It's just tiring, man. I felt physically exhausted after watching that game yesterday. I didn't even want to watch football the rest of the day. I ate a cheeseburger and took a nap. And then I had a stomach ache from the cheeseburger. And then I watched some football and it was like, what's the point. Week fucking THREE and this season already feels like a waste. Like sure, we have an easy schedule and could go 9-8 (or 8-9) and get a wild card spot. But what's the point? Think this team can beat the Chiefs? The Bills? The Rams? I mean we're underdogs to the Cowboys WITH A BACKUP QB next week. Pathetic.
I can't believe how optimistic I was (for the 10th year in a row) about this team. My brain deserves to be blow up. I've said it once and I'll likely say it a million more times- as long as Dan Snyder owns this team, nothing good will happen. Ron Rivera seems like a swell guy but he clearly is out of his coaching element at this point. JDR is a bad defensive coordinator. And the lack of depth on both sides of the ball is a very large problem. I guess we're on to hockey season. Go Caps. And fuck Dan Snyder forever.
