Through 3 Games, Baker Mayfield Is Dead Last In The NFL In QBR
Please delete this tweet. Because when I see tweets like these that show Baker Mayfield is having a worse season than the likes of Davis Mills and Joe Flacco, I am forced to blog about it. And I just want to move on from negative stories about Baker Mayfield and focus all of my attention on supporting my Cleveland Browns, who are currently being led by the #9 ranked quarterback in the league, Jacoby Brissett. That's right folks, through 3 games:
Baker: 30/56, 380 yrd, 2 TD, 1 INT; 23.8 QBR
Brissett: 61/92, 596 rd, 4 TD, 1 INT; 62.8 QBR
Mind you, Jacoby is just the backup who is keeping the throne warm until the consensus Top 5 QB in the league, Deshaun Watson, returns from his legally mandated time off. But the point remains, the Browns backup is out-playing Baker by a wide margin, and hats must be tipped to Clevelands' front office for having the balls to make the moves they did. I liked Baker as a fiery leader and I credit him for turning around the biggest joke franchise in all of sports into a playoff game winning team, but the fact of the matter is that he was not the guy who was going to take us all the way. And he's not that guy for the Panthers either.
Yikes. Now, it's not all doom and gloom for Baker Bros and Panthers fans. While he may be ranked dead last in QBR, the good news is that in my new favorite stat, Points Above Average QB, Baker is NOT dead last. He is 31st, worth an average of negative 10.7 points to his team compared to if they had the league average quarterback, a whopping .01 better than Joe Flacco.
Baker really is off the leash this year, and he better start throwing the ball to DJ Moore or else the roof might collapse down there in Carolina. For someone who hasn't had an NFL season without 1,000 yards, DJ currently has 7 catches for 88 yards.....through 3 games. A modest 1 catch for 2 yard performance yesterday against the Saints. I hope Baker gets this figured out before DJ Moore Sr. posts a video clip of every time he's been open and missed this year....
