Paul Chryst Is OUT After Eight Seasons At Wisconsin

Wow. Wisconsin has gotten off to an uninspiring 2-3 start in 2022, but I don't know that anyone saw this coming. Paul Chryst is no longer the Badgers' head coach after three Big Ten West titles and two Big Ten Coach of the Year Awards in his seven full seasons as head coach.

It seems the days of waiting a second longer than necessary to get rid of a coach are gone, even one as respected as Chryst. On October 2, there are already jobs available at Wisconsin, Nebraska and Georgia Tech — with Auburn possibly soon to follow. The Badgers promoted defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard to interim head coach and he'll have the rest of the season to prove he has what it takes to potentially take over the job full-time.

If Leonhard isn't the guy, though, this seems like the perfect job for Kansas coach Lance Leipold. A big program in the midwest which has recently competed for conference titles and College Football Playoff spots sounds like a match made in heaven for the guy who has the Jayhawks ranked No. 19 in the country.

Regardless of who the next coach is, this is not news anybody expected to see today. Chryst may now become an interesting option for other programs looking for a new coach this offseason.
