Incredible: The Mets Actually Did The Trumpets For Edwin Diaz As He Entered The 8th Inning Down 4-0 In An Elimination Game

What a moment in time. All year long you kinda got the feeling the Edwin Diaz trumpets phenomenon was going to back fire in some capacity. Maybe he comes in for a save in October and completely shits the bed? I never in my wildest dreams thought what happened tonight would transpire.

Down 4-0 in the 8th inning, six outs away from elimination with 1st and 2nd nobody out, you blast trumpets throughout the stadium as Diaz enters the game. Just an incredible happening of events. Padres fans having the time of their lives in the stands dancing on every Mets fans' graves. Mr. Met having himself a ball down on the field. I actually thought I was dreaming at first. Like there's no way they could lack the common sense necessary to play that song in that spot. I can't stop laughing. Like the musicians on the Titanic playing their final song before the ship submerged in the Atlantic.

Even better? Soto drove in two a few batters later to extend the lead to six.

You see, you can get a whole crop of new players, a new owner, a new manager, but you still cannot escape these moments. The Mets will always Mets.

Frank may actually burn his house down, but at least he was right.
