The Georgia Tech QB Who Ran Out Of Bounds On The Final Play Against Virginia Somehow Made It Worse By Basically Admitting He Just Gave Up

In case you missed it last night, Georgia Tech's 16-9 loss to Virginia ended with quarterback Zach Gibson jogging out of bounds on the final play. Obviously the odds of anything good happening there as he's evading defenders 65 yards from the end zone aren't good, but at least just put it somewhere in the middle of the field and see what happens. A pick six there is infinitely better than what Gibson opted to do.

And if the clip wasn't bad enough, Gibson said after the game he pretty much gave up once he was forced out of the pocket.

I can appreciate Gibson owning his mistake — and he wasn't put in a great position to succeed in that game, anyway — but you simply can't say your thought process was to "run out of bounds and take the loss." Even when it's flagrantly obvious that's what happened, you can't say that to reporters. They print those quotes.

It's a tough situation. Tech was not winning that game on the final play and there wasn't much Gibson could do, but you have to at least just lob the ball up in bounds. But if you don't do that and run out of bounds instead, DEFINITELY don't say what Gibson said afterwards.
