After 3,065 Days, It's The Golden Generation's Time At The World Cup
It's been 3,065 days since we last played a World Cup game. A match where Tim Howard was fucking awesome and Chris Wondolowski became a name that makes all of us freak out. But it doesn't matter because that was 2014. This is now. This is our Golden Generation's first run at a World Cup.
Youngest roster at the World Cup?
No excuses.
Playing in Qatar in November?
No excuses.
It's simple. Get out of group stage. That's goal number 1. It starts today at 2pm Eastern against Wales. Again, it's simple. You need at least a point. You can't lose to Wales and put yourself immediately in survival mode against England on Friday.
I know we're dealing with injuries - hence why we don't have Miles Robinson or Chris Richards on the roster. I know Weston McKennie was banged up.
No excuses.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. There's nothing like the World Cup as a fan. Even Qatar can't take it away from us. It's truly the one time and only time we're all cheering for the same team. You go to a bar tomorrow and it's 100% America fans there. Your group texts are filled with making up excuses to get out of work, drink beers and go crazy for the red, white and blue. I wouldn't change that for anything.
I still don't know what Gregg is going to do (please don't fuck up) with the roster in the sense of who starts at the other center back spot and who starts up front. I'm writing this before any of that news is out. Again, no excuses. I keep saying it, but give me our best 11. Play Weah up front. Play CCV/Ream next to Zimmerman. Let Aaronson be a supersub off the bench.
Need some hype videos to get you in the mood for 2pm for a weird World Cup? Here you go.
Beat Wales.
