Big Time Nerd Henry Cavill Is Going To Make A Warhammer 40k Series!

(THR) The actor — who Wednesday officially hung up his Man of Steel cape after Warner Bros. announced it is going in a new Superman direction thanks to DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran — is attached to star in and executive produce a series adaptation of Warhammer 40,000, the popular science fiction fantasy miniature war game that is set up at Amazon.

“It’s great news and we’re absolutely thrilled; we’re working with a fantastic triumvirate in Henry, Vertigo, and Amazon. Henry’s well-known love of Warhammer 40,000—and his passion as a world-builder and storyteller—will serve us all well in the coming years. Finally, Warhammer will make it to the screen as the fans have hoped, and as they deserve. Exciting times!” said Andy Smillie, creative director of GAW.

If you're not familiar with Warhammer 40k, you're not alone. It's a scifi miniature wargame that got popular in the late 80's-90s and eventually spawned into a massive media empire of video games, movies, tv, books etc. You might be thinking that this sounds kinda nerdy, and you would be correct. But I think it only takes the shallowest of deep dives to realize how cool it is.

Here is my quick pitch using properties you might be more familiar with: Imagine Gears of War combined with Halo and Alien. You got a bunch of super-human, extremely brolic space marines going up against all sorts of aliens, demons and other creatures. It just rocks.

Henry Cavill has been a Warhammer 40k fan since he was 10 years old and has campaigned for a live-action adaptation for a long time, and I love that he is getting a run at it. Especially after getting the axe from Superman.

I'm very curious how they approach this series because I assume they will run into the same problem I currently have getting into the lore. That problem is that the lore is really fucking dense. It's hard to find an easy entry point to learn and chronologically figure stuff out but I have been managing with YouTube videos.
