The Saints Are Going To Regret Not Trading For Derek Carr

Derek Carr was released by the Raiders today after deciding he would not waive his no trade clause.

Las Vegas was trying to get at least a mid round pick back for Carr but obviously cannot be blamed for cutting him before his $40.4 million deal became guaranteed today.

So what's next for Carr?

He is going to draw considerable interest on the open market with so many teams desperate for QB help. A case could be made that 3 of the 4 NFC South teams (Panthers, Saints, Bucs) will be pursuing him. I also look for the NY Jets to come after him.

The Saints are not in good financial shape as usual because of rolling the salary cap over year after year for over a decade. They could get outbid easily here.

I have a very bad feeling the Saints are going to strongly regret now getting a trade done.

And that feeling suddenly got worse when I saw this rumor about Baker Mayfield to NOLA floating around.....

I want to hurl. I strongly prefer Jameis Winston to Baker Mayfield who had the lowest QBR in the league last year before being released by Carolina. Baker to the Saints would be pure torture. The thought of Marty Mush in a Baker Saints jersey.... YIKES.

This is why I was such a proponent of the Saints getting Derek Carr. It is not that I loved Carr so much but the alternatives are ATROCIOUS. And the Saints do not pick until 29th in a draft not exactly loaded with QBs.

I got a bad bad feeling of anxiety in the pit of my stomach.......
