The San Diego Padres Make Manny Machado An Even Richer Man After Agreeing To A MONSTER 11-Year, $350 Million Extension

Just days after telling the world he was going to opt out of his contact because of how high the price of eggs were and how much money was being thrown out there, Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres agreed on an 11-year contract extension worth $350 Million. This means a few things, obviously the Padres are in it for the long haul. They are going for it. You look at the amount of money they've shelled out recently, they don't care about whatever luxury tax they have to pay. They are going to do what they have to do to win a championship and it starts with Manny. It started when he signed the massive deal before 2019 and he is the one that has stirred the Padres drink and taken them from the basement to a perennial World Series team.

It also guarantees that Machado will wear a Padres cap in Cooperstown. He's also got no opt outs and a full no-trade clause, he's going to be there for a long, long time. Long enough for 3,000 hits and possibly 500 home runs, he is well on his way to a Hall Of Fame career.

I love Manny and the path he's gone on from a dickhead 21-year old to a full blown leader on the field. He is respected by everyone on his team and anyone who plays against him. Just because Dustin Pedroia didn't move out of the way doesn't mean Manny is a bad guy, people forget that. Also stinks that every Yankees fan in history thought he was coming there and he never even gave them a chance. Love him for that.

And credit to Peter Seidler and the Padres front office. They know they aren't a big market team but that doesn't scare them away from spending the big time money. They want to win, they want to win soon. They know the only way to win is essentially to spend money. More owners should take notes, who cares they are a "small market", they sure don't. You want a player who will put you over the top? Make the signing, pull the trigger on the trade. Good for the Padres for going out and spending.

The guy knows his worth, now the owner of the fourth largest contract ever. He deserves it, he's earned it. I truly believe he's the best player on the Padres and they paid him as such. Another top 3 MVP finish last year, he's cemented himself as one of the best players in baseball and now he's officially paid as one. He's going to have a monster year, I can taste it. Happy for Manny and the Padres, now we see if they can et over the hump that is the Dodgers.

PS. Thanks for the picture a few years ago Manny while at Orioles Fan Fest, one of my favorites.
