Drew Timme Just Racked Up The Best Assist Of His Career Gifting His Entire Team Beats By Dre Headphones
Awesome moment. The old "Everybody Eats" adage. Drew Timme is one of the biggest names in college basketball, on one of the best teams in college basketball , and has a ton of NIL opportunities. One of those NIL partnerships is Beats any Dre. Timme decided it would be in bad taste to just collect the money and the headphones himself and in a really cool video gave a custom pair to all his teammates and staff.
Really cool moment. Coming from a guy who was the 9th or 10th man on a nationallly ranked HS team and watched a bunch of my teammates go D1, I can tell you it is great to collect on the benefits and enjoy the ride. During my championship senior season, I got 4 pairs of sneakers , a free trip to Hawaii, played on TV and no joke...signed autographs on a few different occasions when we played in showcases or tournaments. In the moment, it didn’t seem all that ridiculous. But looking back, it is 100% insane to think about. Little kids coming up to you signing programs without having any idea who you really are. Wild.
So as a role player (at best), I respect Timme sharing the wealth.
I also want to weigh in on what the coolest NIL freebies would have been for the entire team . Here’s my list, within reason obviously. A Ferrari would be terrific gift but let’s be realistic.
1- A really nice pair of sunglasses
Always been a sunglasses guy , I even have a rotating tower display like you see in a store of sunglasses on my dresser. However aside from 1 or 2 pairs, most are rather inexpensive. I always have the thought process that getting 2-3 decent pairs for $30-50 a pop in different styles is better than one pair for $200. I also worry about losing a really nice pair so much that I hardly pull the trigger on big price tags. Getting a nice pair from a teammate would be awesome.
2- Custom Suit
This one would be awesome too. Everyone needs a nice suit but the really good ones are super expensive. Getting a freebie and looking great at a wedding would be nice, without going into your wallet for $3-4k.
3- Brick Watch
All class … if a teammate gifts you this he is a winner and a gentleman.
4- Vacation
Even just a weekend away in AC, a teammate giving you a few days vacation in a hotel to yourself or with your lady would be a blast. Everyone needs a few days off.
5- Cooler
Listen this may surprise people you probably thought I was going sneakers (basketball players have too many anyway) or something. But coolers are one of those things everyone needs but won’t admit. You need a good cooler. They are also expensive, so shelling out $75 for one is a pain in the ass. Let my teammate foot the bill and I can pack it with High Noons (now available in Tequila Seltzer) and reap the benefits. I’m in.
Honorable Mention …
