Mathematically Speaking, It Appears We Can Crown Ohio State As National Champions Right Now

Listen I don't have time this morning to argue with people who are still stuck in the 1800s. If your little brain can't comprehend that the sports world is now ruled by data and analytics, then please exit out of the browser now and go read your newspaper that you still get delivered to your door step. Actually, go watch Moneyball for me one time. Or better yet, READ IT!

The fact of the matter is there might not be a more reliable source on the market these days than the Allstate Playoff Predictor. Numbers never lie, and the math clearly shows that Ohio State is nearly, nearly a coin flip away from winning the National Championship this season. Nearly two times more likely than a little school in the south called Alabama, as well as 2x more likely than last year's champs, Georgia. Actually, 1.947x more likely. That's called Math.

I don't want to hear about how Texas is wrongfully on this graphic (although this is a perfect opportunity for the three military guys and a clown meme) or the fact that Ohio State gave up 87 points in their final two games of the season last year (key words: last year). I also don't want to hear about how Ohio State has to replace their 2x Heisman finalist Quarterback and both Offensive Tackles, let alone go into Michigan to beat them for the first time since covid was invented. I'm not here to talk about any of that. All I'm here to talk about is numbers.

The numbers show that despite not being able to stop a nosebleed when they needed it most last year, and despite the fact that Kyle McCord needs to take some major steps between the spring game and our first game, Ohio State is head and shoulders better than everyone in the country. All the numbers say so.....except apparently the Barstool Sportsbook.

Hmmm. So Ohio State has nearly, nearly a coin flips chance of winning the National Championship, yet they have only the third best odds?

Here's a little Beginner's Gambling lesson for you on implied odds:

7 to 1 odds implies a 12.50% chance of something happening. The ultra reliable Allstate Playoff Predictor gives Ohio State a 37% chance of winning the National Championship. Folks……that is called VALUE.

I'm not telling you what to do, but I personally will be visiting my local Home Depot, going to aisle 9, and picking out the finest Craftsman to responsibly hammer the Buckeyes at 7 to 1.

The S&P 500 is down 7% in the last year. Inflation is at 6.6%. Yet the Buckeyes may be paying a 700% return on investment.
