Howard Golfer Gregory Odom Jr. Has Elevated The Art Form Of Chasing After A Quality Shot

Most folks are familiar with the club twirl popularized by Tiger Woods. The best example of this had to be at the 2009 Presidents Cup. Yes, I took the time to hunt down the highlight outside of the PGA Tour's fun-hating unembeddable Twitter videos. It's that sultry:

Then you had Sergio Garcia dueling Tiger in the 1999 PGA Championship with one of the most memorable walk-down approach shots of all-time. That classic against-the-trees, eyes-closed, sprint-into-scissor-kick combo at Medinah.

…But this man Gregory Odom Jr. is radiating swagger from every orifice of his being. PICKING UP HIS OWN BAG before the ball has even reached its full height is one hell of a ballsy move. Who needs a fucking caddie when you have this much drip?

Odom ripped that shit, used the slope of the green to feed the ball toward the hole and acted as if it wasn't the least bit surprising. This man might've walked 20 whole yards before that shot came to its final resting place. Then, he knocked in the eagle putt to pay it off.

What if you get a funky bounce into the green, kill the ball into an upslope and don't get that release all the way back to the flag? No chance he could've been 100% certain what would happen there. That's what makes this so awesome. The sheer confidence to know you're about to get that under-GIR and stiff it.

When friend of Barstool and notorious swing roaster Max Homa is giving you your due props, you know you've done something extraordinary.

For a little more backstory on Odom, he transferred to Howard from his home school of Memphis during COVID and is first in the APGA Collegiate Ranking. Not to be confused with the World Amateur Ranking, where Odom is 564th, the APGA stands for the Advocates Professional Golf Association, a nonprofit organization whose aim is to bring greater diversity to the sport.

Odom made his PGA Tour debut at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship but missed the cut. I will be rooting hard for him to get to the big show after seeing this display. Seriously, that's one of those shot-chase sequences where you go, "Wait…WHAT!?" I can only imagine what Odom will come up with once he doesn't have to carry his own bag. For now, the innovation and style points are greatly appreciated by the greater golfing community. Keep killing it, Gregory Odom Jr. — and perhaps most importantly, doing what you can to combat the plague of slow play.
