The Youngest Ever Medal Of Honor Recipient Survived A Grenade Explosion, A Free-Fall From 3500 Feet, And An Attempted Murder Plot, But Couldn't Defeat The IRS

I would like to propose a new law:

If you win the Medal Of Honor then you are exempt from paying taxes for the rest of your life. Property tax...wiped clean. Income tax...never. If you throw yourself on a literal grenade like Jack Lucas did then you get to have that scene from Armageddon

This story infuriates me. This is a guy who was willing to give his life to save his fellow countrymen in the bloodiest conflict the world has ever seen and after he survived getting exploded by a grenade, the IRS still decided to bleed him dry. Disgusting. The story goes that many years after the war Lucas was running a chain of successful butcher shops. Somewhere along the way he stopped paying his taxes. Which, I mean, who cares? The paperwork is hard. How many dollars lost is the IRS even talking about with Lucas? A few thousand in the 1970s? I'd say that defeating the Japanese and saving the ability of the Government to tax the other soldiers who were in the trench with him for the rest of their lives means that they still came out ahead on Lucas. This is one of those situations where they should just look the other way or better yet...re-write the law so that this NEVER happens again. This man lost everything after giving almost everything. Abhorrent.

His story is incredible. Full ep below
