It's Oddly Convenient That Cowardly Leo Messi Will Wait Until After Inter Miami Plays In Philadelphia To Come To The MLS

It's certainly huge news in the world of soccer that Lionel Messi is set to sign with Inter Miami. I'd say it probably says a little more about the Saudis than it does about the MLS that he'd be willing to turn down a billion dollars to play in that league. But it's still a massive day for the league, nevertheless. Especially considering they were able to put together a better deal than Barcelona bringing him back.

HOWEVA….

Let's not kid ourselves here. Let's not act like one crucial element didn't factor in to the final decision here for Messi, who is set to become a free agent once his contract runs up on June 30.

The final game that Inter Miami plays in the month of June will be in Philadelphia on June 24 against the Union. Had that game been scheduled a week later, I don't know if Messi comes home to the US of A just yet. If Messi's first game had to be in the city of Philadelphia, I think he's going with the billion dollars in Saudi Arabia.

Because no matter how many big games and hostile venues Lionel Messi has played in throughout his career, nothing can prepare him for having to play in Philly.

All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be shocked if Leo Messi comes up with a serious case of the Philly Flu every time a trip to play against the Union pops up on his schedule. He's got a reputation to uphold. Having Philly fans completely dismantle his psyche for the rest of his career would do irreparable damage to said reputation. Can't have that. So I'd hold off on buying any future Union vs Inter Miami tickets until we see the starting lineups.
