'You Betcha!' This Insane MLS Stoppage Time Game-Winner From Midfield Had Maybe The Worst Call In The History Of Sports
Do me a favor and watch this video without sound the first time:
Insane goal, right? A game-winner from beyond midfield in the 93rd minute for Lucas Zelarayan of the Columbus Crew. Awesome moment. Now listen to the call.
"Can it be? You betcha!"
I can't believe that's real. That would be sub-par commentary for a two-run homer in the fourth inning of a minor league baseball game and it came on what might be the goal of the season in MLS. I don't know who did a worse job, the goalkeeper or the announcer. It's a dead heat.
You should be absolutely losing your shit if you're on the call for a soccer game and that happens. I don't know who this woman is and I'm sure she's a great person, but she can't be let anywhere near an Inter Miami game once Messi starts playing. We need our top guys on those broadcasts so we don't get clowned overseas anymore than we already do.
Thankfully, there was also a Spanish broadcast of this game in which the announcer has a proper level of excitement for the moment. I don't know what he's saying, but it's electric.
That's the energy we need for this goal.
