The NBA Has Already Sold Out Of Tickets For Day 1 Of The Vegas Summer League For Victor Wembanyama's Debut
Michael Gonzales. Getty Images.It should come as no surprise that the entire basketball world cannot wait for Friday and the start of the Vegas Summer League and while there are plenty of intriguing young players and draft prospects, it's because of Wembanyama.
It also probably shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that even though we're still a few days away, good luck trying to get tickets
As I've blogged before, any and every basketball fan at some point in their lives should make the journey to Vegas for Summer League. It keeps getting bigger and bigger every year and considering the entire NBA world is there for those few weeks, it's a no brainer honestly if you love basketball. The people watching alone is worth it and then you also get to scratch your basketball itch. I go every year and I've never been disappointed. Personally, I love the games in the smaller Cox Pavillion gym because it has a more intimate high school feel to the point where if you get there early enough you can sit so close you hear all that trash talk, but even games in the Thomas & Mack Center are fun.
When it comes to this year's Day 1 already being sold out, given the fact that the plan for Wembanyama is to only play 1-2 games I'd say this makes sense. Sure you could just watch his debut on TV, but he's one of those rare prospects where you definitely want to see it in person with your own eyes. I know I can't wait to see it. I remember in the 2017 Summer League during Lonzo/Tatum's draft year the Thomas & Mack Center was PACKED to the ceiling for LAL/BOS given there are so many Lakers fans out West/in Vegas so it's not like this is only a Wemby thing
That may as well have been Game 7 of the NBA Finals given how loud that building was for that game.
The beauty of Summer League is you buy tickets for a particular day and you can literally spend all day watching basketball. It's not like if you're favorite team plays at 6pm you only have tickets to that game. Half the fun is walking back and forth from each gym for games to the point where you look down and you realize you've been watching basketball for like 10 straight hours. I'm telling you, if you can swing it make the trip.
Speaking of Summer League, by now everyone should know the rules. Anything positive that happens for your favorite team with 1000% translate to the real season and anything negative can be ignored because these games mean less than nothing. That's just how this time of year works. It's not a time to be sensible, it's a time to get drunk on hype and potential.

With things already underway with the California Classic and the Salt Lake City Summer league, we already have a few examples of this. We've had a few legit poster dunks which will ALWAYS play no matter when they happen
then over in Utah, there was Chet Holmgren looking like the same guy that had all that hype before his season ending injury last year
which has to excite Thunder fans.
It also wouldn't shock me if Hornets fans are having a little bit of a change of heart when it comes to Brandon Miller and what he did in his Summer League Debut

which is the entire point of these next few weeks. Go nuts, be irrational, and enjoy the fact that we are one step closer to the real deal kicking off in October.
