THE BIG FELLA IS BACK: Bryson DeChambeau Shoots a Sunday 58 To Win LIV Golf Greenbrier
Well lookie here! A 58, in the wild, from a reeeal familiar face. That’s a number that’s only been matched once on the PGA Tour, when Jimbo Furyk fired a 58 at the Travelers a few years back.
Sure, this 58 was fired at what was once one of the PGA Tour’s premier punching bags, but a 58 is a 58. Anytime you’re carding a -12 round, that’s something to tip your cap to.
It surely suggests that the Bryson DeChambeau that once was a Top 5 golfer worldwide and lapped the field at Winged Foot is rounding back into form. He’s gone thru all kinds of ups and downs over the past couple of years between the big bulk up, the dizziness at Augusta, the shift over the LIV, some cringey interviews regarding 9/11 on national TV, and some pretty pisspoor results on the rebel Tour. But as we see a potential PGA Tour-LIV Golf reunion on the horizon, this maiden LIV title for Bryson might serve as a message that he was never going anywhere, and just might be a force on the national golf scene once again.
It also HAS to get U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson’s attention. There’s not really a roadmap for him at this point for him to get points or garner much attention otherwise, but he’s a guy with international match play experience that is at least gonna force ZJ to consider whether he’s worth a look. Hard to foresee him making ripples and going out of his way to do so, but never know.
Regardless, big time stuff from the big fella.
