It's Rather Unfortunate That Jake Moody's Entire Family Made The Trip To Cleveland To See Him Miss The Game Winning Field Goal
Look, I'm not here to beat a dead horse. Everyone knows the 49ers used a 3rd round draft pick on Michigan's finest kicker Jake Moody, making him only the second Top 100 pick kicker in draft history, and he proceeded to miss not one but two kicks yesterday against the Browns in the 49ers two point loss. For those of you that don't have a calculator on hand, either one of those kicks going through the uprights (3 points) would've given the 49ers a 1 point victory. But instead, he missed them both, and San Francisco lost their first regular season game since last October.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Kickers aren't allowed to miss kicks, it happens. But what I am saying is that if you're a 3rd round draft pick, you're not allowed to miss 41 yard kicks at the buzzer to give your team it's first regular season loss in a year. That stinks.
Another thing that would fall under the Stinks category would be missing that 41 yard game-winning kick in front of your entire family that made the trip to watch you kick in the NFL.
Yiiiiikes. Photo taken just one hour before the game, full of friends and family making the short drive over to Cleveland from Michigan to watch their guy play in the NFL. They all can't make the trip to San Francisco each week, so this was clearly pinpointed on the calendar as the game for the Moodys to make the trek to! And they all got there, just in time to watch him blow the game. This is so sad that my heart actually hurts, despite Jake Moody being both:
1.) on the team that played the Browns
2.) a Michigan grad
Credit to me for having feelings and realizing that some things are bigger than sports and bigger than rivalries. One person who does not have a heart / feel the same way is Browns rookie Dawand Jones:
This grudge is so outrageous that I can't get enough of it. Dawand Jones is acting like he's got a picture of Jake Moody up on his mirror at home to remind him every single morning that he got drafted behind a KICKER. And not just any kicker, Michigan's kicker that beat Dawand at Ohio State each of the last two seasons (although the scores show Michigan didn't need a kicker in either game).
Anyways, do the Moodys frame this photo? Or do they scratch the memory all together and head to Minnesota next week to watch him kick in the NFL for the first time?
