The Marlins Manager, Coaching Staff, and Players Are All Reportedly Furious With How Ownership Fumbled The Kim Ng Situation

Over the last few years Marlins GM Kim Ng oversaw the hiring of manager Skip Schumaker, the Luis Arraez - Pablo Lopez deal, the Jake Burger deadline acquisition, Jorge Soler's arrival, the revamp of a dismal bullpen, and so much more. The list goes on and on with what she got right. The end result was Miami's first postseason appearance during in a full season in two decades. Was there more work to be done? Absolutely, but the Miami Marlins were trending in the right direction with Kim Ng calling the shots, no question about it. The Marlins? In the right direction? Hope? Promise? The fuck is that all about?
It seems like almost everyone in the organization expected Ng's prize to be a contract extension. Instead she was greeted with news of a demotion and as a result she walked right out the door into free agency.

Yeah to no surprise it turns out pretty much everyone with the Marlins is pissed.
(NY Post )The unforced error not only cost them their well-liked leader, but goodwill and trust throughout the organization. Word is all of Manager of the Year candidate Skip Schumaker, the coaching staff and players are upset by the nonsensical decision.
A ridiculous excuse was advanced in one place that higher-ups were “concerned” with drafts and player development, strange in that she wasn’t a decisionmaker in those areas until very recently. Meantime, insiders say the couple high-ranking analytics folks who remain had a deep imprint on the bad drafts and weak development for years, well before she ascended to become the true decisionmaker 18 months ago.
You mean firing someone who was turning things around and probably was going to be up for executive of the year wasn't a popular move amongst the fellas? I don't believe it.
Looks like ownership wasn't in on her plan to overhaul the analytics department and going full nerd. They're using the draft as an excuse, but that's all bullshit. She brought in the new age of baseball to an organization that was way behind the curve and they hated it. I mean when you're failing miserably for twenty years and then all of a sudden find success doing something different, why bother keeping that going. Back to the old ways!
As I wrote in the original blog, two destinations with GM/Pres of Baseball Ops (POBO) vacancies stood out to me for her next landing spot —the Red Sox and the Mets. New York seemed like an odd fit considering the recent arrival of Stearns as their POBO. Working under someone like that and not calling the shots is the exact reason she left Miami in the first place. I guess it's possible he presents her with a plan to be collaborative and make it work, but I don't see it. That leaves Boston.
Well…
I knew I liked this woman.
For anyone keeping score at home that's now 10 candidates Boston had interest in who have declined to run the team.
Could be working under John Henry and Fenway Sports Group. Maybe Cora having way too much say is a detractor. Either way there's something revolting that people are running away from when it comes to running the Boston Red Sox. Pains me to type that.
Please do not let Sig Mejdal interview for this team.
