Georgia Tech Is Having One Of The Weirdest Seasons In College Football History
Georgia Tech balances out to be maybe the most average team in college football, but how the Yellow Jackets have gotten there is one of the weirdest seasons I've ever seen. If I told you in August that Tech would have lost to Bowling Green and Boston College by double digits or that it beat ranked Miami and North Carolina teams, you couldn't have come close to accurately predicting its wins and losses through eight games.
The Yellow Jackets are currently 4-4 with wins over South Carolina State, Wake Forest and the aforementioned No. 17 Miami and No. 17 UNC. They have lost to Louisville, Ole Miss, Bowling Green and Boston College. Every loss has been followed by a win and vice versa. No team in college football has been this up and down.
Tech has scored 33 touchdowns and 254 total points and given up 33 touchdowns and 254 total points. This team has the highest variance in performance in the country and it somehow equals out to be exactly average.
If the Jackets' win-loss-win-loss pattern holds throughout the season, they would beat Clemson in a game that would deal a massive blow to the Tigers' hopes of making a bowl game and then finish the season with a win over presumably-still-No. 1 Georgia, which would be the perfect ending to this incredible campaign. They'd also sprinkle in losses to 2-6 Virginia and 4-4 Syracuse, completing the most beautiful and quintessential ACC Coastal (RIP) season ever.
Find me another team that paid $1.1 million to lose to a MAC school and then had two ranked wins and a field storming in the following three weeks. There is nothing better than this sport.
