The Atlanta Falcons Have Hired Raheem Morris Instead of Bill Belichick

Ain't no way, man. The only team to interview Bill Belichick settled on hiring Raheem Morris, whom it deemed not good enough to be its head coach after finishing the 2020 season as its interim. I'm going to be sick.

The Falcons have had several coaching searches over the years and none of those ever really resulted in a hire that was deemed catastrophic at the time or anything, but this one has certainly fallen in line with the bullshit we have all come to expect from this franchise. Arthur Blank chose to keep his buddy Rich McKay running things from the shadows instead of getting Belichick to coach a roster that's a quarterback away from being a real contender.

I feel like I'm going insane. Blank chose his pal — under whom the Falcons have largely sucked — instead of the greatest coach in NFL history and then went even further down the list past that and passed on a handful of candidates far more in demand than the guy he ended up choosing. I just hope someone has the balls to ask Blank why Morris wasn't good enough in 2020 after receiving an extended audition with Atlanta but is good enough now after leading a Rams defense that finished 9th, 18th and 20th in scoring defense under his watch.

Oh well. The couple weeks where we thought we might get a really awesome coach were fun. Maybe the NFC South will be bad enough that 7-10 can win it next year.
