AWESOME NEWS: The Lost Boyz Have Released New Music In The Year 2024

Shout out to my girl Lindsay Rotondi back in Boston for always keeping her ear to the streets and sending this to me this afternoon. I can't fucking believe this dropped a few days ago on Youtube and it went completely under the radar. I searched everywhere on the google for news about new Lost Boyz music, new Mr. Cheekz stuff in the works, a re-release, anything, and there is nothing. Niente. Nada.

Makes zero sense.

Young scrappers don't know, but Lost Boyz, Mr. Cheekz, Freaky Tah, Spigg Nice, Pretty Lou, aka the LB Fam were one of the best things in hip hop music ever back in the late 90s and 2000s.

Representing Queens, NY they were massive in the New York rap scene back in that day, before things really exploded thanks to the internet, their 1995 debut single, which they released independently, "Lifestyles of the Rich & Shameless" landed them a record deal and a spot on the Don't Be a Menace To South Central, While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood soundtrack.

(If you've never heard this song, crank up a good sound system and throw this on.)

A year later they dropped their first album, Legal Drug Money.

The album was a smash success both commercially and critically. It included a whopping FIVE gold and Billboard 100 singles-

Rich and Shameless but also these heaters -

    "Music Makes Me High"

"Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimaz & Benz"

    "Get Up"

and of course, the best love song hip hop record ever, "Renee"

Freaky Tah was murdered in Queens on March 28, 1999 and later that year the group's remaining members released what would end up being their third and final album, LB IV Life

Mr. Cheeks caught a little bit of fire as a solo artist on some other artists tracks, like Lil Kim's "The Jump Off", as well as his own solo project. "Lights Camera Action" was very hot at the time.

Sadly that was pretty much the last we ever heard from Cheekz and the group.

    Until, (randomly), last week!

Great to see. Hopefully this means a reunion album is in the works and on the way. Fingers crossed.

p.s. - fuck this trip down memory lane makes me miss old school hip hop so freaking much
