The Choco Taco Is BACK Thanks To Taco Bell, But With A MASSIVE Twist

Yahoo- Taco Bell is going to fill the Choco Taco-sized hole in your heart. The ice cream truck staple was discontinued in July 2022 but the fast food spot is bringing their take on Klondike’s Choco Taco this summer with help from Salt & Straw, Taco Bell is partnering with the Portland-based ice cream brand to create their version of the beloved treat.

So I woke up this morning, saw this news while wiping the coal out of my eyes, and was trying to figure out if it was a very late Christmas miracle from Christmas 2023 or an extreeeeeeemely early Christmas miracle for 2024.

I've talked nonstop about the Choco Taco being the king of ice cream truck treats on the blog, podcasts, social media, and the other 842,619 different forms of media we shoot Barstool into peoples' brains. The fact Klondike stopped making the GOAT is like when the Patriots cut ties with Tom Brady, except if they did it when he was still putting 35+ touchdowns on the board in New England and banned him from ever playing football again despite still having plenty in the tank.

Which is why I wasn't totally shocked when I heard Taco Bell was bringing back the legend considering they always find a way to create greatness and just had an absolutely electric 2024 menu reveal that rivals any event Apple has ever done.

Then I got to the next paragraph of the story and all my happiness turned to sadness.

The taco shells are made with waffle cones, just like the original, and filled with cinnamon ancho chile ice cream instead of the vanilla with chocolate swirls that the discontinued version had. The dessert is dipped in chocolate and topped with toasted brown rice rather than the OG’s peanut pieces.

No disrespect to Taco Bell, who has done more innovating in the food game than almost any other company in the history of the universe, or Salt & Straw, which is likely a fine company in its own right. But cinnamon ancho chile ice cream wrapped in a waffle cone with brown rice on top is NOT the Choco Taco. It is some zombie, weirdo Portland version of the Choco Taco that was created by people dabbling in the dark arts, as illustrated below.

I took no joy in writing this blog but wanted fellow Choco Taco diehards to know that the true OG is not coming back just like when WWE brought back the their legendary ice cream bars as some bullshit half measure version of the original without a super soft cookie front or chocolate backing.

So once again I'll ask the Choco Taco faithful to live by Dr. Seuss' immortal words: Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened (but you can still be pissed because Klondike fucked everything up).
