Give This New Orleans Bus Driver A Raise And A Medal After She Saved Students From A Bus Explosion

NY Post- A New Orleans school bus driver says her maternal instincts kicked in when she spotted smoke coming from the vehicle last week and ushered nine children to safety moments before it burst into flames.

“As soon as I saw the bus smoking, my instinct said, ‘Get them off the bus,’ ” Kia Rousseve, 28, told Fox 8 of the terrifying incident in the Central City neighborhood Wednesday morning.

“A little girl came up and told me the bus was on fire underneath. I got them off,” the driver said.

“I turned the bus off and got off. When I got off, the bus blew up. All I heard was, ‘Boom! Boom! Boom!’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God, the bus blew up.'”

Rousseve said she was thinking of her own child when she heroically sprang into action and took the life-saving step, which prompted her employer, Community Academies of New Orleans, to call her “courage on wheels.”

What a stud! I couldn't tell you once nice thing a bus driver did for me growing up, and that's not knocking them so to speak. It was more of a business transaction type deal. Get on the bus, sit down, and he would drive. At no point was he asking how I was doing in school, who my teacher was, or any real concern for me other than being a passenger. The most memorable moment on the bus as a kid we called "Cowlick" who was a target every morning on the bus. He got that name because of his hairdo. Anyway one morning he threw up in the middle of the bus on the way to school. This sweetheart of a girl in my grade helped him, and also let the bus driver know by yelling up to him "Cowlick (whatever his real name was) just threw up!" The bus driver said "who's that?" to which every asshole in the back of the bus including me yelled back "Cowlick", to which the bus driver mouthed to himself but we could see in the big mirror above his head "Who the fuck is Cowlick..". Was the highlight of our year.

Anyway, safe to say that no one really struck me as a life altering figure driving me to school growing up. Which is why I am so jealous of Kia Rousseve. What an absolute star. Bad situation, dangerous situation ... no sweat. Save the kids. Just a fucking rockstar who put herself in massive danger to help the kids. It's real clear...give her a raise and a medal. What are we talking about here? She deserves to be praised forever for this. Just an all time good person act. Class beyond class. Well done Kia.

Happy to see everyone made it out thanks to her. There are good people in the world. Some things.
