An Angry Parent Paid For An Airplane To Fly A "Carmel Baseball Is Daddy Ball" Over Their High School (JV!!!) Baseball Game
Shut it down. It may only be March, but the race for "Biggest Fucking Douchebag On The Planet" has been decided for the year of 2024.
And clearly this one hits home a little harder because I was a high school girls basketball coach for a decade, and I've seen it all. A parent (not sure if I should use fat or dumb to describe him) showing up to all of our away games in the opposing schools' colors because his daughter was the 6th man on a 25-1 team. Another parent offering to do the scorebook for a game, then throwing the scorebook back at the coach after the game, circling his daughter's quarters played, and storming off. Two parents fighting in the cafeteria. A parent waiting in the hallway of the high school for when the bus gets back from an away game, ready to pounce. And of course, my favorite, well I won't say that they tried to sue me / the school for "mental abuse" because their daughter wasn't getting amount of shots per game they wanted, but since that doesn't get someone fired these days, they went to the next page of the parent playbook: bullying (but still kept her on the team while the whole thing played out)! But no, I won't say that because I don't know if they'll get lawyers involved again.
Anyways, let me tell you all something: high school coaches do not play favorites (unless you count our favorites as the kids who work hard, stay out of trouble, or ummm, help us win games). They have to juggle a million different things, including but not limited to playing the best players, rewarding the kids that deserve it, taking behavior and attitude into account, trying to develop new players, and the hardest part....dealing with a fleet of parents who think their kids are the only person in the entire program.
Like this fucking guy:
GOOD GRIEF. And don't come at me and say you love his creativity. I don't care what happened to his son…..cut, benched, a Junior playing behind a freshman…..this guy is a Grade A asshole, and I'm not listening to anyone say otherwise. Even if the head coach of the team is the father of the starting shortstop, fuck this guy. High school coaches get paid about 10 cents an hour and they shouldn't have to put up with shit like this. There's NO OTHER profession where you deal with this much ridiculous hate, except like, the NBA? And they make millions to do so, not hundreds. And the fact that he paid for this airplane flyover tells me he's probably got a lot of money on his hands, which adds up to my theory that his son probably just got told something he didn't like for the first time in his life….and he didn't know to deal with it. Probably called the Athletic Director. Probably then went to the Superintendent. I'd imagine he never even talked to the Coach. But when all else failed, let's fly this fucking banner over a JV BASEBALL GAME!!!!
The story on Twitter says that the pilot (I can't imagine what he was thinking) ended up flying over to the Varsity game too, but the fact that he went to the JV first means that this dad is upset that his son either didn't make, or isn't getting enough at bats, for the backup high school team.
What a loser. And to bring out the former educator in me, he's being a bad dad, too. Teach your kid to work hard, even when things don't go how you want. Teaching them to fly a banner hanging off an airplane when he doesn't get what he wants is a stronger lesson than any teacher could ever give him….
