A D1 Basketball Coach Says He Passed On A Recruit Because The Kid's Dad Used Twitter To Criticze LeBron And KD

I agree. It's no secret that when you recruit a kid, you gotta check in on the parents, too. In grade school and all the way through high school, you don't really get to pick your players (unless you're a private school, fuck them). But once you get to college, you get to hand select players that you want to coach, so you have to factor in parent behavior. I couldn't imagine coaching for my paycheck and having an angry mom or dad up in the stands chirping at me, acting like I'm doing anything other than trying to win. Parents coaching their kids from the stands is my ultimate pet peeve, and the amount that still do it past the 4th grade is truly astonishing. So yes, I agree parent behavior is something to keep an eye on as a college coach.

.... but I didn't know that included tweeting about LeBron and KD.

I need to know what "disrespectful takes on Bron and KD" means. Like, if he's out here saying rude and mean and disgusting things....maybe it shows his character is poor, and maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? But if his disrespect is along the lines of the Lakers and Suns potentially both getting swept because the old heads are washed, then what are we even doing here.

Coach says otherwise:

Is this one of KDs burners or what? This makes me laugh out loud because this coach is digging his hole deeper and deeper every time he replies. Yes, there is a relationship between a player and parent, but the Dad's opinions on whether LeBron is the goat or not should not factor into recruitment. This coach is acting like he avoided a potential problem here, but it sounds like the player is the one that dodged the bullet here.

* I don't know how good the kid was, but is NCCU really in a position to turn down potential recruits due to parents tweets about LeBron? I'm guessing the kid sucked and the Coach was just trying to be cool on social media….
