The Nationals Smack Talked The Phillies In 2020 And The Record Between The Teams Since Has Been ASTONISHING

ICYMI the Philadelphia Phillies pulled off another sweep of a baseball team to extend their MLB best record to 34-14. Ho Hum. It matches their greatest start in team history with the '93 and '76 squads, respectively. They also hold a  5 game lead over the Bravos and are 20 games over .500...in MAY. The Phils have the best starting pitching staff in the game while being able to hit the piss out of the baseball at will. Harper slays, Schwarber dings, Castellanos is actually coming around, Rojas learned to hit it out of the infield, Marsh is wet, Stott is sex, and Alec Bohm is leading the league in RBI's. Oh, and even when their caliber SS Trea Turner goes down for 6 weeks they have guys like Kody Clemens step in and play like a doggone All-Star on a nightly basis.

]It's glorious to observe. Almost as glorious as 20/20 hind-sighting the shit out of  this Nationals Tweet from 2020:

.502 all-time??? My oh my! Talk that shit, #NATTITUDE!!!

See, kids, this lovely game of baseball goes in ebbs and flows (unless you're the Dodgers or Braves, of course). The Yankess and their fanbase peacefully go to sleep at night knowing 26 of their 27 rings came before this century. The A's used to be an absolute powerhouse in the sport but now have less of a budget than most travel ball teams. And anyone with a brain understands you can cherry pick favorable baseball data when one team is good for a short period of time while the other is dogdick trotting out the likes of Jeremy Hellickson as their opening day starter and their manager straight up bails on the team mid-season. To each their own. The Nationals even won a WS in 2019. Good for them. They obviously forgot about Citizens Bank South from 2007-2011 when the Nationals unequivocally hosted home games for The Fightins.

However, since that infamous Tweet in 2020…YIKES:

Giphy Images.

Talk about one of your all-time backfires/asswhoopings. Since that Tweet the Phillies have gone on to take the Nationals behind the woodshed and then some. And it's no offense to this specific squad in Washington. The fact these young bucks are playing close to .500 ball is impressive. CJ Abrams, Ruiz, Meneses, Gray. They've got some young moxie on the squad. But, yeah, can't let some things slide. And the absolutely ASTONISHING record the Phillies have over the Nats since this Tweet means you'll most likely be seeing it referenced for a long, long time.

Go Phils. Enjoy the Summer, for Red October is always nigh.

PS - For all those schedule fluffers who have nothing better to worry about by saying the Phillies haven't played a team above .500 since the opening series vs. the Braves, kindly STFU. First off, you play the games on the schedule. Period. But secondly, the San Diego Padres are 25-25 and the San Franscico Giants are 23-25. The Phillies have already swept SD in California and the Giants in Philly. So…yeah. I'll let the delightful Mensa crowd in the comment section figure out why the "bUt tHEy hAvEN't pLAyEd aNYoNe!!!" argument is a crock of happy horseshit.
