The Pirates Hit So Many Home Runs Last Night Against The Mets That They Ran Out Of Fireworks
Cool story. Bloggable though? You tell me. Rowdy Tellez and Bryan Reynolds became the first pair of teammates in MLB History to each hit two home runs, including a grand slam a piece. Tied a franchise record 7 home runs as a team, scoring all 14 of their runs from the long ball. And with Paul Skenes improved his rookie record to 5-0. But at the end of the day, I'd lean on the side of this being non-bloggable material aside from perhaps if we had a Pirates specific or MLB only writer. Besides, at 42-45, Pittsburgh is too low in the standings for me to be caring about!
However then this caught me eye.....
Oh wow, I see some people on the internet streets saying this is funny, but I've got it classified under Bad and even worse, EMBARRASSING. You can tell that the Director of In-Game Operations for the Pirates grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth, never needing to think for himself. The idea that Pittsburgh would not have enough supply on hand to BREAK the franchise record is flat out poor planning. Not to mention it was Friday, July 5th! America's birthday was no less than the night before....and it's a long weekend....there should be a direct 1:1 ratio of fireworks to fans in attendance. So for the Scoreboard to read like this was some sort of funny This. Is. Insane situation, it should've been a sincere apology. We as an organization apologize to all fans in attendance, as well as those in surrounding areas that are close enough to know that fireworks mean home run for the Pirates, that our poor planning has left us with nothing to launch on the franchise breaking homer, should it occur.
Or just make a quick run to the fireworks store??
Either way, 14-2 Pirates......and according to my good friend Frank Fleming, the Mets are dead. Won't win 20 more games all season.
