Did Paul Finebaum Help Get Lane Kiffin Fired at USC?!?!?
WHOA.
This is a WILD exchange between Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin and SEC Network Host Paul Finebaum from SEC Media Days to say the least.
Lane Kiffin was fired by USC on an airport tarmac in 2011 after USC lost to Arizona State. He calls it the lowest moment of his career.
Twelve years later, the topic came back up at SEC Media Days in Dallas when Lane was on with Paul Finebaum. Paul called Lane "the Miley Cyrus" of college football and a joke on College Gameday the morning that Kiffin was fired.
It turns out the USC Athletic Director & President were both watching the show at the time. And lo & behold Lane was let go that night! Obviously there were a multitude of other factors and surely Paul Finebaum running his mouth could not have been the reason he was canned but this is still crazy nonetheless.
Credit to Coach Kiffin for taking the high road. That firing led to him working for Nick Saban as Alabama OC for 3 years then he grinded back up the coaching ranks from Florida Atlantic to Ole Miss.
The one lesson I have learned in my 41 years on earth is that bad things end up being a blessing long term. And that is what Lane reiterated here. Now he's entering his 5th year at Ole Miss making 9 Million+ with a Top 5 team in America!
I would say it has all turned out pretty damn good for Coach Kiffin......
